Here we are in December, and it’s been really tough for me to get into the holiday spirit this year with 60 and 70 degree temperatures and no snow… I’ve heard that it DOES snow here in Kansas—but in my big 13 months here at the station I have yet to really see it. Last winter was so mild—I think we got 2 inches of snow the whole season if I recall correctly. So, we’ll see. In the mean time—we are looking for your help right now with Country Legends Cares. The kids and families at Topeka Rescue Mission need our help so that no child wakes up Christmas morning cold with no toys. Please bring your new, un-wrapped clothing item and toy donations to any of our drop-off locations. I was so overwhelmed at the community spirit here in Northeast Kansas last year, as we doubled the previous year’s donations. I’m not saying we need to double it again (although that would be amazing) but I at least hope to maintain / match it. SO many kids and families were helped last year that the rescue mission was also able to donate some of what we collected to other area charities like the Salvation Army so that they could help some of THEIR families on the list there. So everything we collect goes directly to the kids and families that need it most RIGHT HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY. Thanks so much to US Bank for joining our cause this year—and to Jeremy and Nichole Goodwin—two of the most amazing people I have been blessed to meet since coming to this area, and WIBW-TV 13… It’s a true effort of love for all of us involved and that includes YOU for donating. A HUGE thank you to all who stopped at US Bank on Wanamaker to see Lani this past Friday and donate—we couldn’t do this without you!
And of course—you know me, and you know how much I LOVE food—Marlena is going to be at Cracker Barrel on Saturday for lunch! I might have to go down and join her because I LOVE Cracker Barrel! The food is amazing—can’t say enough about it… And the Old Country Store has everything you’re looking for for Christmas gifts. What I love about it is that everything is so different than what you’d find at your typical department store and it just has that feeling of HOME. I could spend a few paychecks there myself—so if you’re like me and you’d like to give gifts that are more unique and have a ‘personal touch’ sort of feel to them, the Old Country Store is where you need to shop. Everything from scented candles to knick-knacks for decoration, to clothing (they have K-State and Jayhawks items like sweatshirts, etc) to music and DVDs… Marlena will be there with your chance to win gift baskets—so come over to Cracker Barrel for lunch on Saturday!
The buzz around the hallways here at Country Legends 106-9 is how excited we all are about our newest venture—our broadcasts of Hayden Sports! Any time there’s a Hayden game, go to our website and click the Hayden Listen Live link—you’ll hear Bob Fidler and Matt Copeland call all the action buzzer to buzzer—with the Player of the Game, interviews with the coaches, and so much more! It’s all there and waiting for you now! And coming soon, there’ll be a phone app that you can download so you’ll be able to have your Hayden action at the touch of a button. Stay tuned!
Another big Congrats to all of our ticket winners who will get to go to the Kansas Expocentre to see Cirque Du Soleil’s “Dralion” playing this week… We don’t get shows like this very often in Topeka so I hope that whether you won tickets or not, you’ll grab a few friends and go see the show and support great entertainment coming to our area—this way, we’ll get MORE great shows to book here. And—the PRCA Rodeo is in town at the Expocentre in January—tickets are on sale for those shows right now, too. That’ll be nice—to head indoors with the family / kids / grandkids for a fun show in January when it’s cold—makes a great stocking stuffer!
As we approach the time of celebrations. Office Christmas parties, New Years, etc—a reminder that we love all of you in our Country Legends listener family—please celebrate responsibly and don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve had something to drink. Let’s all be safe and enjoy each other’s company this holiday season—and again—Merry Christmas!
