Hi, it's Rick Douglas, back with the radio station nearest and dearest to my heart. I had my greatest time in radio with Country Legends (KTPK Country 107 and others then) from 1990 thru 1999. I'll never forget applying in 1987 the day after Marlena hired Kevin Williams. Missed it by that much! So it was off to another gig until we were able to get together in 1990. What fond memories of the music and the listeners, many of whom are still listening and participating in our civic activities today. You are the greatest!
Originally from Orange County in Southern California, I arrived in Topeka the middle of March 1987 to help take care of my failing aunt. I thought I might be here for 6 months to a year. Well, 25-1/2 years later, I'm still enjoying the Heartland and the friends that I have made, including of course, my wife Sharon who is a native Topekan. My youngest son Len runs a car dealership here in Topeka, and my oldest son Todd is living in Portland, OR, involved in the many aspects of the movie business.
I have also enjoyed and been blessed by extra-curricular activities including beginning my 22nd year as the Public Address announcer for Washburn University football and basketball, volunteering with the United Way, the Alzheimer's Association, the Arthritis Foundation and the Washburn Alumni Association. I love this community!
Thanks for continuing to listen to and support Country Legends 1069. I know I'll be talking to you and seeing you at various events.
